Abstract : This study focuses on the prototype of corruption in Indonesian cognition. Based on the reality that corruption has a level in people’s cognition, there are variables that indicate that action A is more corrupt than action B. The purpose of this study is to describe (a) what are the most influential variables in determining the level of corruption and (b) whether there is a relationship between the background of respondents to their cognition in seeing corruption. The methodology used in this research is mixed method. Semantic cognitive prototype research is language research, so specifically the determination of variables and data sources adapts to research. This study uses Tomaszczyk’s (2007) prototype theory approach and adapted Coleman and Kay’s (2014) research. Data in this study were obtained through questionnaires and interviews. Based on the analysis of the results of the study it can be concluded that the most influential variables in determining the degree of corruption in a row are (1) there are illegitimate rewards, (2) abuse of authority, and (3) parties who benefit. The greater the nominal compensation that is invalid, the higher the degree of corruption. Meanwhile, if the beneficiary is an individual, it is considered more corruption than if the beneficiary is an institution / group.
