THE FACULTY OF CULTURAL STUDIES STUDENTS LEVEL OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY BASED ON ITP-TOEFL CRITERIA IN BRAWIJAYA UNIVERSITY

Abstract : This research is anex post facto research that analyzes and evaluates the program of activities that have been executed from 2015 to 2018. The questions of this researchare (1) the level of English language proficiency of students of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) by faculties in the university, (2) the level of English language proficiency of FIB students in each study program, and(3) the proficiency of FIB students in Listening, Structure, and Reading. Thedata collection techniquein this research is the ITP TOEFL score. The utilized research instrumentis in the form of a checklist. The research subjects involved 2191 FIB students out of 37,478 students from various study programs in 16 faculties in the Brawijaya University from the 2011/2012 academic yearto the 2014/2015 academic year. The research data were analyzed quantitatively using raw scores, averages, standard deviations, frequencies, and percentages as statistical tools. From the research results, it was found that the maximum TOEFL score of FIB students at the level of faculties in UB is the third highest. At the same time, it was found that the minimum TOEFL score of FIB students are the third lowest. Another result of the research is that there is no indication of stability of score rankings at the level of study programs at FIB. The TOEFL scores of students in each study program in FIB has also been indicated to fluctuate.
