IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT BY USING NUMBERED HEAD TOGETHER TECHNIQUE AT SMP NEGERI 11 PASURUAN

The purpose of this study was to explore the implementation of Numbered Head Together to improve students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text at the first year of students of SMP N 11 Pasuruan. The design of this study was classroom action research (CAR). This research focused on the use of Numbered Head Together to improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 11 Pasuruan and conducted in class VIIB which was consisting of 17 males and 12 females. The instrument used in this study were observation, interview, questionnaire, documentation and test. In assessing students’ individual test, the researcher adapted the scoring rubdric from Pioneer Valley Book by Michelle Dufresne. The finding showed that Numbered Head Together (NHT) technique could improve students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text in the seventh graders’ of SMP NEGERI 11 Pasuruan. It was proven from the improvement result of the criteria of success in the first and second cycle. Besides, Numbered Head Together was one of technique which could make students were more active and confident to share their ideas in group discussion.
