IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT USING MIND MAPPING

The students had difficulties writing such as; organizing and exploring the idea, combining the sentences, and applying grammatical structure. The purpose of this study is to improve the students’ writing skill using mind mapping. The research method used was Classroom Action Research in which procedurally required the collaboration between the researcher and the English teacher. This subject of the study was the seventh grade which consist 30 students at SMP 6 Pasuruan in 2017/2018 academic year. To collect the data, the researcher used the instruments such interview, observation, documentation, and test. The findings of this research indicated that the implementation of mind mapping was successful in improving the students writing skill. The improvement of the students’ quality of writing could be seen from the number of the students’ who achieved the criteria of success. The criteria of success of this study was if equal to or more 75% of the students who passed the KKM. In cycle one the researcher found that there were 70% and 96% in cycle two who achieve the criteria of success. In conclusion, mind mapping very helpful for the students to improve their writing skill.
