Dative alternation is argued by some researchers as an aspect of Universal Grammar (UG) reflections, such as research done by Mazurkewich and Roger Hawkins. In those research, PD frame is said as unmarked and DOD frame as marked. So, DOD frame must be more complicated to be acquired by learners. This study is a descriptive study that reexamines the acquisition of dative alternation of adult ESL/EFL learners. The group of learners from 8 different countries was given two tasks; a GJT and a sentence construction task. It was found that in acquiring dative verbs, participants acquire non alternating verbs more than alternating verbs, PD frame is more acquired than DOD frame and human indirect object is more acceptable than inanimate indirect object.
